A Glow Plug's functioning needs to be controlled for it to work optimally. A Timer or a Glow Plug Controller regulates current to the Glow Plug thereby controlling its heating times and provides indication to the driver to crank the engine when it is sufficiently warm. The Electronic Controller drastically reduces the Glow Plug failures that arise due to sticking relay or overheating of the glow plug. A proper current regulation( & hence the heating of the Glow Plug) coupled with post heating BERU Glow Plugs can reduce initial white smoke during cold starting to remarkable levels.
